I love making adorable and easy crochet children’s clothing! I feel so proud when my babies are wearing something made by Mummy, It’s also a real confidence booster when I get a comment about something they are wearing and I can say “I made that”.
There are soooo many children’s clothing patterns out there! Sweaters, cardigans, hoodies… but not like the ones you will make, you will choose your own colour yarn, you will pick the perfect texture and put your little spin on a pattern you have mastered, nothing can beat creating something unique, but making it exactly how you want it is amazing!
I always try to write my patterns as simple as possible so you may be able to adjust to a different yarn weight and hook sizes once you get confident enough to go off the page. That way, when you see that yarn you MUST HAVE but have no idea what you ill use it for, you can go home sit down and think…”I have the perfect project!”
Here is a round up of some free crochet childrens clothing patterns that are perfect for beginners and the pro’s alike. Timeless designs with endless possibilities!
Enjoy!
A Rustic and warm Country crochet sweater in sizes 12months – Adult XXLarge.
The perfect go to sweater for chilly walks, days out or evenings around the campfire.
This crochet sweater has a rustic charm that is ageless, made with lots of ease for comfort and plenty of stretch.
This Is super easy even if you are a beginner. If you want to start your crochet adventure in the garments area, this can be your perfect project.
The Pumpkin sweater is a raglan sweater worked from top to bottom.
Starting with a yoke and then separating the sleeves from the body of the sweater. Then working the sleeves and body individually.
I liked working with raglan because no assembly is needed.
I love its simple design and mix of gorgeous pastel colours. The cotton yarn gives it a durable, defined texture (which my two year old totally needs – lots of washing)….and did I say it has pockets??!
An easy sweater but you do need to have the crochet basics down. It helps if you know how to join a round and turn. And it helps if you know how to make ribbing with front post and back post double crochet.
Perfect for those chilly walks, days out or evenings around the campfire.
This pattern is unisex and looks great in stripes, block, yarn cakes and marble colours.
The jacket features rimmed edging, rimmed cuff and hood.
Follow the “step by step” video to help you with stitches and construction of jacket.
Made with really neat cakes with many color combinations.
The yarn is worsted weight and pleasant to work with.
There are knots at some of the colour changes, but I found they were small enough that they just worked right into the stitches. The ball is a generous 383 yards and I used every last inch for the child size poncho!
A pattern that would suit any skill set.
I like to create my patterns with ease in mind so anyone can try them out.
Using repeat stitches over alternate rows creates a beautiful texture that gives this poncho its cosy, breathable fabric.
Designed with a ribbed hem and large turtle neck, this poncho will be worn many times in the colder months where you don’t need to sacrifice style over practicality!
I think the Olive Shrug would be a gorgeous addition to anyone’s wardrobe, its perfect for Spring through to Summer. With its light and airy texture, the v stitch & simple half double crochet border is a superb combination for a shrug.
This beginner friendly crochet pullover is a perfect layering piece for your little one! Working a simple crochet stitch and some basic shaping this sweater is great for beginners. Crocheted in super soft Bernat Roving, this easy to care for yarn makes this sweater a staple for winter.
A simple and easy to make crochet dress that can be made to fit any size or length.
It works well in all colour combo’s, block colours and solid colours! It can even be made with acrylic and wool to wear in winter with tights and leggings!
This pattern calls for Red Heart Hygge yarn, a size 5/Bulky weight yarn. Because this yarn is so much softer than a traditional bulky weight yarn, I find that it is very pliable and amazingly comfortable to wear. If you use a different bulky weight yarn, that WILL work, but you may find the finished product to be a bit stiff.

This sweater is approximately a 2T. The arms measured 11 inches from the shoulder to the wrist, 12 inches across the shoulders, and about 14 inches from shoulder to mid thigh.
This crochet pattern merino coat features a tall/folded collar, Button cuffed sleeves and soft curved edging.
It has a soft scalloped edge and has a lovely stretch for keeping warm and comfortable this Winter.
The Blue Sky Cardi is worked starting with a square, letting spaces for the sleeves, then continue working the square to get to the length.
After that, work to make the front panels wider to have almost the same width as the back.
The sleeves are worked in rounds starting from the armpit, the bottom of the arm holes.
The Bell Crop Crochet Toddler Sweater Pattern has been written for the “scared to take on a sweater” crocheters. All the details about gauge and sewing it all together is explained step by step for you.
This chunky crochet sweater is over-sized, meaning its slouchy and baggy so its loose and can be worn over layers.
This is a really simple unisex sweater that can be adjusted to fit your size easily.
It has a large neck opening and baggy sleeves and will feel chunky and large over all in all sizes.
