We all love a crochet cardigan pattern free, right? There can never be enough crochet cardigan patterns for women.
There are so many styles, stitches and yarn combinations to try that, my brain overflows with inspiriation every time I grab that hook and yarn.
I always have 3 things in mind when I create my crochet cardigans design…
Comfort/style
Cost vs yarn type (sometimes it’s worth going that extra mile to be in love with your crochet cardigan project)
Stitches and WIP time
The style – do I want a long, duster like cardigan, a short, boxy cardigan, granny square cardigan etc etc – I usually take the season into account and go from there.
The crochet ribbed cardigan pattern I am sharing today, is perfect for autumn/winter with its tweed + wool combination. Economical to work up as the yarn comes in 400g skeins, I was super happy when all of these factors came together for the vision I had in mind.
Last but not least! The stitches?! I decided to go for something simple but effective. Saving the more intermediate stitches for the ribbed edging. Making this a pattern that works up quickly and is not too mind consuming to complete.
Pattern info
My free crochet cardigan pattern is written raglan style from the top down, Using markers to create the sleeve, Lapels and back section.
The ribbing is worked in rows back and forth in the pattern.
When working your increases – Make sure to read the pattern correctly!
Increases are worked in the stitch BEFORE and AFTER a marker stitch – Only one stitch will be placed in the same space as the marker.
Move marker up to new stitch for each row.

Yarn inspiration!
I have chosen to use James C Brett aran tweed yarn for this crochet ribbed cardigan. This has been my go to yarn for a number of products. It comes in an assortment of rustic colours and in large 400g skeins.
James C Brett rustic with tweed yarn is machine washable, durable, warm and soft to touch. Has a decent amount of stretch and is lovely to work with.
Suggested hook size is 5mm/H hook for the body. We will be working with a 6mm/J hook for the body to give it a softer drape and more ease for comfort.
The ribbing sections will use a 5mm/H hook
