This crochet maxi dress has been on my mind for quite some time but as it was winter and then a very “winter like” spring, I hesitated to get mhook into it for a while.

As soon as I found this knitcraft cotton blend yarn, I knew exactly what it was going to make.

The yarn is so soft against the skin, silky and breathable, it has all the texture and organic feel of a cotton yarn with that bouncy slightly stretchy feel of an acrylic yarn. Its perfect!

This is a simple beginner friendly crochet pattern for a Crochet dress in cotton with pockets.

The dress has functional fastenings at the shoulders that can be adjusted for desired length, and open pockets add a professional touch.

Make in multi- colours for a vibrant Summer dress, or darker tones would be great for winter worn over long sleeves.

This dress is a perfect all rounder for every season.

Made with cotton/acrylic blend worsted weight yarn. Yarn fibre can be changed to suit season.

This pattern uses very little yarn:

2-3 years – 400 yards

3-4 years – 440 yards

5-6 years – 530 yards

7-8 years - 640 yards

Circumference in inches at waist: 2-3 years 19.5”/ 4-5 years 20.5”/ 5-6 years 21.5” / 7-8 years 22.5”

Length shoulder to bottom edge: 2-3 years 20”/ 4-5 years 21”/ 5-6 years 22” / 7-8 years 23”

Pattern is written in US terms.

Pattern can be easily adjusted to add width or height and explanation is in pattern.

Finding alternative yarn…

100% cotton yarns can be used. However, this will have less ease and stretch than the yarn used. You may wish to make the next size up in pattern in this case.

Acrylic yarn may also be used but acrylic yarn has upto 4 X the ease. When blocking your project the garment could become too large.

Please take this into account and maybe size down 1-2 sizes in pattern.

In the pattern we work from the top down, making two pieces then adding the shoulders.

Very, simple instructions are given for the increases and along the way in each section I will help you to customise to suit your preferred size/height.
